Explore the Limits with Chaos Tech
Star Trek is about many things: exploration, holding ourselves to a higher standard, and pushing the limits of our knowledge. In that spirit, we are excited to introduce Chaos Tech, a new ship equipment slot in Star Trek Fleet Command introduced in Update 72: Q’s Continuum Pt 1. Chaos Tech will exist alongside Forbidden Tech but serves a very different purpose.
While Forbidden Tech provides powerful general bonuses, Chaos Tech is more focused and specialized. Each piece offers a useful general bonus to your ship with its first unlocked ability. As you improve and upgrade your Chaos Tech, these abilities become more focused and finely tuned to specific tasks.
These are not just phase cannons; they are finely tuned laser scalpels, each perfectly suited to help a Commander accomplish specific tasks with ease. Since they are more specialized, the Epic and Rare types have three abilities instead of the four that Forbidden Tech possesses.
Chaos Tech Available This Month
Here’s a list of the Chaos Tech that will be available this month! As with Forbidden Tech, expect more to become available over time. In this article, the numbers on the abilities assume the maximum levels have been reached.
The Q Cannon (Epic)
Abilities:
- Defensive Countermeasure: Against players, each time the opponent scores a Critical Hit, reduce their base weapon damage by 200% for 2 rounds (stackable).
- Critical Damage Reduction: Against players, reduce opponent’s base Critical Hit Damage by 300%.
- Weapon Enhancement: Against players, increase your base weapon damage by 1500%.
Overview:
The Q Cannon functions excellently alongside PvP-focused Forbidden Tech to both improve your damage output and reduce the enemy’s effectiveness. Installing the Q Cannon on your ship will make it significantly stronger when you go up against other Commanders!
Temporal Conduit (Epic)
Abilities:
- Hull Breach Infliction: At the start of each round against Hostiles or Armadas, 85% chance to inflict Hull Breach on the target for 2 rounds.
- Loot Boost: Increases loot from destroyed Xindi Reptile or Xindi Aquatic hostiles by 1200%.
- Apex Barrier Enhancement: Gain +50,000 Apex Barrier when fighting Xindi Reptile or Xindi Aquatic hostiles.
Overview:
The Temporal Conduit is designed for the NX-01, but any ship can use it effectively to battle the Xindi Reptiles. With its extremely high loot boosting and an Apex Barrier that can make your ship effectively have six times its usual Hull Health Points (HHP), the Temporal Conduit will make your trips to the Delphic Expanse short and painless.
Additionally, its first ability is extremely useful against any Hostile or Armada, as it frees up an officer slot that might have otherwise been needed to inflict Hull Breach. Pairing this Chaos Tech with anti-hostile critical hit boosting Forbidden Tech like the Metreon Cascade Warhead will drastically improve your damage!
Electromagnetic Lute (Rare)
Abilities:
- Isolytic Cascade Increase: At the start of each round when fighting non-Armada Hostiles, increase Isolytic Cascade by 10% for 3 rounds (stackable).
- Loot Boost: Increases loot from destroyed Texas-Class Hostiles by 400%.
- Apex Barrier Enhancement: Gain +10,000 Apex Barrier when fighting Texas-Class Hostiles.
Overview:
Developers designed the Electromagnetic Lute with the Monaveen in mind, making it much easier to battle Texas-Class hostiles and allowing players to obtain the necessary resources to significantly speed up the refinery. Its first ability is useful against any sort of hostile, so don’t feel limited in how you use it!
Try equipping this Chaos Tech—perhaps alongside the Tarka’s Isolytic Weapon Forbidden Tech—on your strongest ship against the Gorn, where any Isolytic Cascade bonus is precious!
Thought Maker (Common)
Abilities:
- Apex Barrier Generation: At the start of each round when fighting non-Armada Hostiles, gain +100 Apex Barrier for 5 rounds (stackable).
- Loot Boost: Increases loot from destroyed non-Armada Hostiles by 20%.
Overview:
Rounding out the first four Chaos Techs is the Thought Maker, which provides a small but meaningful bonus to hostile hunting. The Apex Barrier allows you to fight longer between repairs, and the loot-boosting effect, while minor, certainly adds up over time!
Installing the Thought Maker on your primary hostile hunting ship is likely to be the first thing you do as you begin your tinkering with Chaos Tech!
The Chaos Tech Upgrade Process
To use and upgrade this new ship equipment, you will need the following materials:
- Chaos Tech Fusion Rods
- Chaos Tech Protomatter
- Chaos Tech Tier-Up Catalysts
- Chaos Tech Reactors
The following materials are used exactly the same as their Forbidden Tech counterparts:
- Chaos Tech Fusion Rods unlock the slots for Chaos Tech on your ships.
- Chaos Tech Protomatter is used to level up Chaos Tech.
- Chaos Tech Tier-Up Catalysts are required every 5 levels to tier up the Chaos Tech and raise its level cap, possibly unlocking a new ability.
- Chaos Tech Reactors are used in leveling or tiering actions.
In a notable difference from Forbidden Tech, there is no chance to fail when upgrading Chaos Tech!
You can acquire your materials from the new Chaos Tech Refinery tab, in a bundle labeled Chaos Material Exchange. To obtain these materials, you need to refine Chaos Modules. Defeat the new hostiles in the new Continuum Space systems to collect Chaos Modules.
Embrace the Chaos
With this new ship equipment type, all sorts of new crew and equipment combinations for your ships are possible! Keep on tinkering and push the limits of your knowledge in Star Trek Fleet Command. Whether you’re focusing on PvP battles with the Q Cannon or enhancing your hostile hunting with the Thought Maker, Chaos Tech provides specialized tools to give you the edge you need.
