  • Treat the camera lens like you’re looking through a viewscreen at a friend.

How Your Story Will Be Judged

Our official judges panel will review entries. They will also take votes from your fellow fans into account. All entries will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Narrative Originality: The uniqueness of your Star Trek story and personal reflection on the Trek legacy. What does Star Trek mean to you?
  • Alignment with Trek Values: How effectively your submission reflects core themes like exploration, diversity, innovation, or unity. How did Star Trek’s values impact your own career, hobby, or everyday life?
  • Presentation Quality: The clarity of your message, vocal delivery, and the overall coherence of your entry.
  • Production Creativity: How well do you bring your personal story to life within the 120-second timeframe? This includes visual/auditory effort, and other elements such as cosplay, STEM integration, editing, etc.
  • Voting: Your fellow community of Star Trek fans are invited to help determine the finalists. You can vote for your own entry and invite your friends to vote.

4. Judging & Voting Mechanics

Each entry will receive a final score that combines points awarded by our judges and the fan voting process. Each entry will receive an initial score from one judge. This will be combined with the points awarded by the fan voting process. The top 30 entries will then be scored by the full panel of judges. These scores will be combined with the fan scores to determine the final winners, including the potential Top 8 Candidates and the potential Grand Prize Winner. All winners are subject to verification. Please see the rules for more details.

The following outlines how the judges scores and fan voting will be applied to arrive at the final list of winners.

Judges ScoreCombined score out of 600 points based on Narrative Originality, Alignment with Trek Values, Presentation Quality, and Production Quality.Up to 600 pts
Fans ScoreRank-based percentile system based on total fan votes, which the fans voted on using the same criteria as the judges.Up to 400 pts
TOTALUp to 1000 pts

Our official Starfleet selection panel will evaluate and score each entry across four technical categories, while accounting for votes accumulated from the community.

CategoryDescriptionPoints Possible
Narrative OriginalityThe uniqueness of the “Bold Mission” story and personal reflection on the Trek legacy.180 pts
Alignment with Trek ValuesHow effectively the submission reflects core themes: exploration, diversity, innovation, or unity.120 pts
Presentation QualityClarity of message, vocal delivery (if video), and overall coherence of the “Mission” pitch.120 pts
Production CreativityThe visual/auditory effort, including cosplay, STEM integration, editing, or use of the campaign toolkit.180 pts
SUBTOTAL600 pts

The judges will award a raw score, from 0 to 10, that will then be weighted based on the category to arrive at the relevant score based on the above criteria:

  • Score 0: Did Not Meet Requirement. Complete omission of core prompts, severe rule violation, or total lack of relevance.
  • Score 1–3: Developing / Poor. Superficial, cliché responses. Low vocal clarity or extremely poor environmental lighting/framing.
  • Score 4–6: Satisfactory / Good. Explicitly fulfills the baseline requirements. Answers all prompts clearly with good pacing and clean technical audio/video capture.
  • Score 7–8: Excellent / Highly Executed. Strong, specific personal anecdotes. Displays active “Star Trek Values” in real life and leverages deliberate creative choices (uniforms, collectibles, or community toolkit assets).
  • Score 9–10: Exceptional / Starfleet Elite. Unforgettable, emotionally resonant story. Demonstrates massive real-world impact (STEM milestones, community leadership, etc.) paired with charismatic, flawless presentation value.

When you browse the gallery and watch submissions from other fans, please note that this isn’t a popularity contest. Just like our official panel, we ask that you cast your daily votes based on the core four factors:

  1. Narrative Originality
  2. Alignment with Star Trek Values
  3. Presentation Quality
  4. Production Creativity
