Master PvP Combat with Q: Meet the New Officers in Update 72

By Bek 7 November 2024

“I have no powers. Q the ordinary, Q the miserable, Q the desperate. What must I do to convince you people?”

“Die.”

—Q and Worf

Commanders, prepare to shake up the PvP combat landscape with the arrival of Q in Star Trek Fleet Command’s Update 72: Q’s Continuum. Three new officers, collectively known as the Interceptor Retaliation Squad, are joining the ranks, and they’re here to play a vital role in your PvP strategies. Although Q may not have his full array of powers in this incarnation, don’t underestimate his potential on the battlefield.

This new set of officers is designed specifically to combat Interceptors in PvP combat. While they rely on the Morale state similar to the Explorer Strike Team group, the similarities end there. The Interceptor Retaliation Squad can be deployed on any kind of ship, not just Explorers, giving you flexibility in your fleet compositions.

Meet the Interceptor Retaliation Squad – PvP Combat

Epic Officer: Starfleet Q

Captain’s Maneuver: Mon Capitaine

  • On round start against players, Starfleet Q has a 40% chance to apply Morale to your ship for 1 round.

Officer Ability: You Hit Me!

  • On round start, if placed on a ship with Morale against players commanding an Interceptor, Starfleet Q increases your Apex Barrier by 10,000/12,000/14,000/15,000/16,000 for 5 rounds.

Starfleet Q is the cornerstone of the Interceptor Retaliation Squad. His Captain’s Maneuver, Mon Capitaine, introduces a 40% chance to apply Morale at the start of each round against players. This is crucial as it triggers the abilities of the other Q officers. His Officer Ability, You Hit Me!, significantly boosts your ship’s Apex Barrier when facing player-controlled Interceptors, providing substantial protection over multiple rounds.

Rare Officer: Mariachi Q

Officer Ability: Our Good Fortune

  • On round start on a ship with Morale against players, Mariachi Q increases your Isolytic Cascade damage by 50%/60%/75%/95%/120% for 3 rounds.

Below Deck Ability: Immortal Again

  • On round start against players affected by Burning, Mariachi Q increases your Apex Barrier by 7,000/8,000/10,000/12,000/15,000 for 1 round.

Mariachi Q brings both offensive and defensive versatility to your crew. His Officer Ability, Our Good Fortune, amplifies your Isolytic Cascade damage when Morale is active, enhancing your ship’s offensive capabilities for three rounds. If you choose to assign him Below Deck, his Immortal Again ability provides a defensive boost to your Apex Barrier when facing enemies affected by Burning. This makes him an excellent addition to Battleship PvP crews that rely on Burning effects, adding much-needed defense.

Rare Officer: French Marshal Q

Officer Ability: A Deadly Game

  • On round start on a ship with Morale against players, French Marshal Q increases your weapon shots by 25%/30%/35%/40%/50% for 3 rounds.

Below Deck Ability: Always Suffering

  • On round start, if the enemy player has any state (Morale, Burning, Hull Breach, Assimilate), French Marshal Q repairs 5%/7%/10%/14%/20% of hull damage taken in the previous round of combat.

French Marshal Q completes the trio with abilities that enhance both your offensive output and defensive sustainability. His Officer Ability, A Deadly Game, increases your weapon shots when Morale is active, stacking up to three times over three rounds. This means that even at Tier 1, French Marshal Q can boost your shot count by up to 75%, significantly increasing your damage output.

When placed Below Deck, his Always Suffering ability repairs a portion of hull damage at the start of each round, provided the enemy ship has any combat state active. This ability synergizes well with other hull regeneration effects, making your ships more durable in prolonged engagements.

Strategic Synergy and Deployment

The Interceptor Retaliation Squad thrives on the Morale state, which is primarily supplied by Starfleet Q’s Captain’s Maneuver. By placing Mariachi Q and French Marshal Q alongside Starfleet Q, you can guarantee the activation of Morale, ensuring that all their abilities are triggered effectively.

These officers offer flexibility in deployment:

  • Starfleet Q is best utilized as the Captain to maximize the chances of activating Morale.
  • Mariachi Q can be assigned either as a Bridge Officer to boost Isolytic Cascade damage or Below Deck to enhance defense when facing Burning enemies.
  • French Marshal Q similarly offers offensive boosts on the Bridge and defensive hull repairs when placed Below Deck.

This flexibility allows you to customize your crew setup based on your strategy and the specific challenges you face in PvP combat.

Tips for Dominating PvP Combat

  • Combine with Burning Crews: Use Mariachi Q’s Below Deck Ability with crews that apply Burning to maximize your defensive capabilities.
  • Stack Offensive Buffs: With French Marshal Q’s shot count increase and Mariachi Q’s damage boost, you can significantly enhance your offensive output.
  • Enhance Durability: French Marshal Q’s hull repair ability synergizes with other hull regeneration effects, making your ships harder to take down.

Q usually means trouble when he appears, but with these new officers, the trouble will all be for your opponents! The Interceptor Retaliation Squad offers a dynamic new way to approach PvP combat in Star Trek Fleet Command. By mastering their abilities and synergizing them effectively, you can dominate your enemies like never before.
