Solo Wave Defense: Your Sneak Preview into the Next Frontier

By Bek 1 March 2025

With our next arc on the horizon, we’re excited to pull back the curtain on one of the most innovative features coming your way—Solo Wave Defense. This refreshed mode reimagines our classic Wave Defense, tailoring it for the solo Commander who’s ready to take on the galaxy’s toughest challenges with up to three full crews under their command.

A New Challenge for Solo Commanders

Imagine deploying three ships simultaneously and steering each crew through a series of 3–5 intense rounds, where every battle tests your strategic acumen and fleet composition. In Solo Wave Defense, you’ll be pitted against waves of formidable Apex Raiders. These aren’t just any hostiles; they include the relentless Ferengi Plunderers and the ever-elusive Orion Prowlers. Each wave is meticulously designed to ramp up the pressure, ensuring that every round brings new tactical dilemmas and fresh challenges.

Solo Wave Defense

Central to the mode is a new Section 31-themed entity—the Baraam—whose presence adds a layer of narrative intrigue to the battles. As you progress, you’ll encounter hostiles at varying levels—from 45+—each wave introducing more nuanced enemy tactics and increasingly powerful adversaries. These foes are enhanced with unique buff groups: “Not Playing Nice,” intensifies their piercing stats, weapon damage, and inherent barrier strength, while “Black Market Armaments,” boosts their Isolytic Damage and Defense, all while diminishing your critical hit potential. Particularly, Orion Prowlers wield these buffs with greater might, making them a true test of your defensive strategies.

Tactical Depth and the Power of Counters

While our Apex Barrier mechanic has long redefined survivability by transforming flat barrier points into true health multipliers, Solo Wave Defense brings new layers of tactical gameplay. The introduction of Apex Shred—a cutting-edge tech modifier—provides you with the means to slice through those formidable barriers. Even as enemies boost their defenses, a well-timed Apex Shred can reduce the effectiveness of their Apex Barrier, making each confrontation not just a test of strength but also of strategy. Whether you’re facing a foe with 10,000 or 50,000 barrier points, your mastery of Apex Shred will be critical in tipping the scales in your favor.

What is Apex Shred?

Apex Shred is a tactical modifier that reduces the damage mitigation provided by an enemy’s Apex Barrier. In essence, while Apex Barrier converts flat numbers into extra survivability, Apex Shred slices through that bonus—diminishing the barrier’s protective effect by a percentage. This means that with a well-timed application of Apex Shred, even the most fortified foes can be brought closer to defeat.

Keep an eye out for more details on Apex Shred in the upcoming patch notes as we delve even deeper into its strategic impact.

Exclusive Rewards and Progression

Success in Solo Wave Defense isn’t just about survival—it’s your gateway to a trove of exclusive rewards that will bolster your fleet and refine your combat capabilities. At the heart of this progression lies the Section 31 Access Key. This key unlocks a suite of upgrades and items:

  • Favors
  • Chaos Tech
  • Artifacts
  • Officers and Refits

Every victory in Solo Wave Defense brings you closer to unlocking these critical assets, ensuring that each battle is not only a test of skill but also a vital opportunity to enhance your overall strategic arsenal.

The Road Ahead

As the arc launch draws near, we invite you to prepare for this reimagined battlefield. Solo Wave Defense is more than just a new mode—it’s a dynamic arena where every decision, every ship upgrade, and every tactical adjustment can be the difference between victory and defeat. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a new Commander eager to prove your mettle, the challenges and rewards that await in Solo Wave Defense are set to redefine how you engage with the cosmos.

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates, tips, and behind-the-scenes looks as we count down to the launch. Until then, gear up, strategize, and get ready to lead your fleet into the unknown.

Live long and prosper,
